Pink Peppercorns are the dried berries of the shrub commonly known as the Peruvian peppertree. Pink Peppercorns add a unique, feisty flavor all their own, full of mildly spicy, fruity flavors with slight floral tones. The slight peppery flavor is due to piperine oil, which is also found in other peppercorns, but the heat of other peppers isn’t present in these pink gems.
Substitute Pink Peppercorns for some (or even all) of the black pepper in a recipe to add extra dimension. Pink Peppercorns have a thin, fragile skin that can easily be rubbed off and used as a great lightly-flavored colorful garnish for fish or chicken.
