WHAT IS YAUPON?
(And by the way, we pronounce it “yo- Pon”)
SIMPLY, THE ONLY CAFFEINATED PLANT NATIVE TO NORTH AMERICA!
Yaupon holly is an evergreen shrub native to the southeastern U.S., primarily between Florida and Texas. It is the only naturally occurring caffeine producing plant in the U.S.
Brewed for centuries by Native Americans, this American treasure was forgotten. Left behind by the busyness of modernity. Until now!
Our Yaupon is wild harvested using regenerative agriculture practices in Cat Springs, Texas. Wild growing Yaupon is pure and pristine, having grown without the use of pesticides, herbicides or even irrigation. The Yaupon is harvested while still on its branches and allowed to shade dry and oxidize for a few days.
Nomad Spice Co. sources Yaupon tea of the highest quality. We look to true American values of sustainable farming, wild foraging, and good stewardship of the land. Nothing touches this Yaupon but sunshine and rainwater; it’s free of pesticides, chemical fertilizers, and synthetic weed control measures.
Nomad Yaupon is as sustainable, and as natural as it gets.
AMERICAN | SUSTAINABLE | WILD-HARVESTED | JITTER-FREE CAFFEINE | REFRESHING & DELICIOUS.
DARK ROAST – Elegant and sophisticated, our traditional dark roast Yaupon is naturally sweet, smooth & perfectly balanced. It’s great hot or iced and tastes like a black tea.
Here is how we do it:
WILD GROWN – on ranches in Cat Springs, Texas
NO WATER ADDED – only rainwater and sunshine
HAND HARVESTED – no heavy machinery to minimize impact on the land
CONSERVATIONISM – harvesting to support the plants individually and the region as a whole
SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING – from the packs, to the yaupon pouches, our materials are biodegradable
One of the unique things about Yaupon is that it is tannin-free, so it’s naturally sweet and impossible to over-steep… which means you can enjoy several cups from just one teaspoon or sachet! (Recommend 3 servings, just continue to add hot water)
Preparation
Brewing a cup of hot Yaupon
We prefer our water just off boiling and for each cup (approximately 14 ounce) of hot water, use one Yaupon pouch or one teaspoon of loose-leaf Yaupon. You can re-steep several times – it’s that good!
First steep 4-6 minutes.
Second steep 5-8 minutes.
Third steep 7-10 minutes.
OR just keep adding hot water and leave the Yaupon in your cup as you sip.
Iced Yaupon
Since iced yaupon is better shared, these ratios are for a pitcher (approximately 1 gallon).
Add one large pouch or 2 tablespoons of Yaupon to hot water and let steep for 15-20 minutes. Strain loose leaf or remove pouch before putting in the fridge to cool. Add remaining water to make a full gallon.
Serve with lemon, fresh mint, or orange.
